Lawyer

Michael S. Rosten practiced law with the law firm of Cohen and Wolf, P.C. from 1978 to 1998.  He served as the initial chairman of the firm's Real Estate Department and was managing partner of the firm's Westport office at the time of his resignation from the firm.  Mr. Rosten left his prominent firm in 1998 to join RE/MAX Heritage.  He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975 from Williams College and his Juris Doctor degree in 1978 from Cornell University.  He is also a graduate of the Class of 1991 of Leadership Greater Bridgeport.   

Mr. Rosten is a member of the Real Property Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and the CBA'S Lawyer's Clearinghouse on Affordable Housing and Homelessness.  He is also a member of the Bridgeport and Connecticut Bar Associations and the Community Association Institute.  He has lectured on numerous occasions to attorneys, real estate agents and the general public.      

REALTOR

Mr. Rosten is a licensed real estate salesman having acquired his license several years ago while serving as head instructor of the Principles and Practices course offered by the Metropolitan Real Estate School in Greenwich, Connecticut and preparing students for their real estate licensing examination.  He is currently affiliated with owner/broker Virginia Klein and her team of awesome real estate  professionals at RE/MAX Heritage in Westport, Connecticut.  Mr. Rosten conducts his real estate business under the trade name BowtiesEsq. Real Estate Services which reflects is unusual taste in neckwear.  He is a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Connecticut Association of Realtors and the Fairfield Board of Realtors.   

Mr. Rosten has established informal strategic alliances with several different colleagues at RE/MAX Heritage in order to effectively represent buyer clients, through an unusal team concept.  His clients receive the benefit of two Realtors attention and expertise, at no additional cost.  Mr. Rosten's legal training and expereience (he has personally handled over two thousand closings) provides a unique perspective on the buying and selling process in Fairfield County and beyond.  As the traditional role of the real estate agent and attorney continue to overlap in the Connecticut market place, Mr. Rosten is uniquely qualified to provide full service real estate advice and representation to clients looking to sell or purchase residential properties in Fairfield and New Haven Counties. 

Known for his attention to detail, patience and off beat sense of humor, Michael particularly enjoys working with first time buyers.  He also receives many listings from his fellow attorneys handling Estate and Divorce settlements. 

Community Leader and Activist

Mr. Rosten is well known for his volunteer activities and his devotion to the not for profit community.  He was just elected to the Board of Directors of Operation Hope of Fairfield, a not for profit organization that he has represented for many years in its efforts to develop affordable multifamily housing in Fairfield. He has been honored as a Man of the Year at Congregation Beth El in Fairfield, where he served as the 21st President.  He recently concluded his third (non-consecutive) term as a  director of The United Way of Eastern Fairfield County.  He has also served a a director of the local chapter of the American Red Cross.   He donates blood frequently and encourages his clients and friends to do so as well.  A link to the blood drive schedule may be found on this site under Local Resources.  He has also been active with several other organizations including The Bridge Fund at Family Services Woodfield;  Project Blueprint, a leadership training program for members of minority communities run by the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County; and the local chapter of Habitat for Humanity, where he is the only volunteer who has never seen or touched a hammer.  Several years ago, he was honored to be selected to serve with his then teen-aged daughter on the initial Steering Committee of SANE (Students' AIDS Network for Education), a program of statewide meetings organized by and for students from throughout the region in collaboration with the American Red Cross.

Mr. Rosten served as the first Chairman of the Board of The Volunteer Center of Greater Bridgeport, an organization created by members of the Leadership Greater Bridgeport Alumni Association.  For these efforts, he received the first local Distinguished Leadership Award presented by the Leadership Greater Bridgeport Alumni Association in conjunction with the National Association for Community Leadership.  Mr. Rosten has also served as President and Chairman of the Board of Regional Network of Programs, Inc., as Chairman of its Advisory Committee for Prospect House, a homeless shelter for single individuals, as President and Class Agent of the Williams College Class of '75, as President of The Williams College Association of Fairfield County and as a Campaign Division Chair of several United Way campaigns.  In 1994, he received The Norman Leeds Trophy as the Outstanding Volunteer from the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County.  He delivered the keynote address at the Annual Volunteer Recognition luncheon of the Volunteer Center of Greater Bridgeport in November of 1998.   

Personal

Mr. Rosten resides in Fairfield with his very patient and talented wife, Margie.  They receive frequent visits from their son David, a college junior, who now resides at home while commuting to Western Connecticut State, and their daughter, Meryl, a graduate of Sarah Lawrence College and a student at The Cornell Law School, and her handy, teacher husband Bailey Phipps.  In addition to assisting his real estate and law clients, his goals for 2008 include spending significant time on his Vespa motor scooter , losing 10 pounds, and watching the Yankees win the World Series.
